IFA/kaili #1
This short little play you are involved in has a lot in it. I shows your quality and it also shows some thing we should work on for you.
To start the play off you are playing the punted ball really save - Let’s imagine if you had been closer to your mark and could have challenged for the ball before it hit the ground. This does not need to be a headed ball, it could be any part of your body so that we keep the ball from bouncing towards our side of the field. Letting the ball bounce can easily turn into a really dangerous play. I do like how you are in position to get the second bounce and you are not caught in between bounces.
When you let the ball bounce twice on this play you are not trying to control the game you are letting the game control you. It is almost always best to attack the ball, I think at this point in your soccer career you should work on being aggresvie and playing with confidecne. You understand how to be careful and you do a good job with that already.
Get after the game and practice trying to take the game over.
The third bounce of the ball is when you start to control the play.
This is really impressive how you shield the ball and use your leverage and your strength to fight off the defender. It actually looks like she gets really frustrated and hits you a little. You have a real talent for this and I think you should really develop this type of play. While we are on this section of the play let’s also talk about this really great little two touch move you have in your bag of tricks. This must be from working with Jim. You can beat so many players with this move I think it’s a really good one for you because of how strong you are on the ball.
This kind of play could be the key for you going forward and I hope you keep doing it and explore the possibilities of what can happen when you play like this.
Make this your style of play.
Use your leverage and ability to be firm on the ball and buy time so that you can make really good decisions being the starting point of some really good attacking plays. Do not be afraid of losing the ball at times this is going to happen and is part of how you explore this type of play. The thing I don’t want you to do is to kick it without having an idea of where it should go because you are feeling nervous. of course there are times when the right decision is to just clear the ball from a dangerous place but if you can play relaxed and are able to identify the times when to hold the ball look up and make a pass or the times you should clear the ball then I think you can really begin to progress as a soccer player.
Good start to the season and we will look at some more clips
