This was asked by one of our Center mids. Yes you should always look to break lines first. I don’t want the ball to go out wide as a pattern of play that you always do. I don’t care where the ball goes, all I ask is that it is done with thought and purpose. If you have breaking the defence up and trying to attack towards the opponent goal then you will put us into good attacking positions to score.
Question from a player playing the 6 position. The holding mid or 6 should almost always track back and help the center backs. If you know that they are going to win the ball then open up and find space to receive a pass. This is called reading the game and I will give you trust that you will do the right thing. Sometimes you just follow your instincts on the field and your feet will take you where you should be. But a general rule would be that as a holding mid you should help us win back possesion then open up to recieve the ball. Lets make sure we get possession before we think too much about attacking play.
