  • if i had the ball in the middle would you want me to connect passes and restart or find a way to break the line and find a forward?

    This was asked by one of our Center mids. Yes you should always look to break lines first. I don’t want the ball to go out wide as a pattern of play that you always do. I don’t care where the ball goes, all I ask is that it is done with thought and purpose. If you have breaking the defence up and trying to attack towards the opponent goal then you will put us into good attacking positions to score.

  • Sometimes I get confused as to what I should do in moments where our center backs are in contest with the other team who has the ball and is attacking toward our goal. The two options that I could consider would be to (1) open up for a potential pass in case our team gains possession of the ball and needs an option or (2) get back and support pressuring/covering for the defender.

    Question from a player playing the 6 position. The holding mid or 6 should almost always track back and help the center backs. If you know that they are going to win the ball then open up and find space to receive a pass. This is called reading the game and I will give you trust that you will do the right thing. Sometimes you just follow your instincts on the field and your feet will take you where you should be. But a general rule would be that as a holding mid you should help us win back possesion then open up to recieve the ball. Lets make sure we get possession before we think too much about attacking play.
